DRESS FOR STUDENTS – 2006-2007
THE
A
student is expected to exercise good judgment in his/her choice of dress,
making sure that it is appropriate for school.
Clothing, hairstyles, make-up, or etc. must not be a distraction,
immodest, inflammatory, or offensive.
Certain styles of attire, while accepted elsewhere are not appropriate
to the school environment. All students
(male and female) are expected to follow the prescribed dress code guidelines. The faculty and administration will make the
determination as to the appropriateness of any item, but the following
guidelines must be adhered to:
General Rules
·
Outer
clothing which resembles loungewear, pajamas, or underwear is prohibited.
·
Fads
and styles in dress which differ extremely from conventionally accepted
standards are prohibited, such as, pants with slogans/writings across the
buttocks.
·
Any
clothing that is viewed as distracting because of extremes in style, fit,
color, pattern, fabric, etc., shall not be permitted. Undergarments
may not be exposed at any time.
Specific Rules
·
Blouses/shirts
should be constructed with sewn in sleeves so that the shoulder is covered and
is fitted under the arms (no halter tops, tank tops, strapless tops, spaghetti
straps, or bare-shouldered tops of any type will be allowed). Sleeveless tops are not allowed. The midriff must not be exposed when a student goes through the normal
activities of a school day (i.e., bending, stretching, reaching, etc.) Blouses/shirts which expose any portion of
the waist, hips, or midriff are not allowed.
Blouses/shirts which are not appropriate for school include those which
are low-cut (showing cleavage), see-through, backless, or tube tops, etc. All
male students must wear shirts tucked in pants and belts must be worn.

Clothing
which is cut, slashed or has holes above the knee, is prohibited.
·
In
accordance with board policy governing student conduct with regard to bullying,
weapons, gangs, and drugs; clothing
shall be free of inflammatory, suggestive, racial, or other inappropriate
writing, advertisement, or artwork. This
also includes offensive words and designs, violence (blood, death, and
weapons), sex, playboy symbols, hate groups, tobacco products, drugs, and alcohol.

Neither shirts, jackets, nor coats may be oversized or so large as to
extend past fingertip length.
·
No
clothing or other article may be worn or displayed at school or any school
function.

membership in a gang.
·
Pants,
skirts, and dresses must be knee-length or longer.
·
Shorts,
skirts and pants must be worn at the top of the hipbone for both boys and
girls. Clothing should not be poorly
fitted or oversized/undersized. Pant
legs must be worn at their full length.
·
Clothing
with loops for belts must be worn with a belt.
·
Nylon
wind suits that fit appropriately are permitted.
·
Mesh,
nylon, athletic shorts are not permitted in the classroom. These type shorts may be worn during P.E.
classes only. Also, no sweat pants, (PE
attire) may be worn in the classroom.
·
Skirts,
shirts, dresses, shorts and pants must be non-body-hugging (spandex clothing,
etc.)
Accessories
·
Shoes/sandals
must be worn at all times. Cleated shoes and spiked heels are
prohibited inside the building.
House/bedroom slippers are not acceptable.
·
Students
may wear earrings. Neither male nor
female students may wear ornaments (jewelry) which pierce the skin such as the
nose, lips, tongue, eyebrows, etc.
·
Students
may not wear hats, caps, hoods, headbands, bandanas, sunglasses, combs, picks,
curlers, etc., inside the building.
·
Sweat
shirts with hoods may not be worn.
·
Oversized
belt buckles are not acceptable.
