APRIL

Snack SMART.

Snacks are a part of a healthy diet.  Sugary snacks taste so good, but they aren’t so good for your teeth or your body.  The candies, cakes, cookies and other sugary foods that kids love to eat between meals can cause tooth decay.  Many sugary snacks contain a lot of fat.

Did you know that the average American eats 147 pounds of sugar each year?  That is a big pile of sugar.  Ask your lunchroom manager to show you what 147 pounds of sugar looks like.

The decisions you make about snacks can affect your health.   Foods such as berries, oranges, grapefruit, melons, pineapple, pears, tangerines, broccoli, celery, carrots, cucumbers, unsweetened fruit and vegetable juices, breads, plain bagels, unsweetened cereal, unbuttered popcorn, baked tortilla chips, pretzels, plain crackers, milk, yogurt, and nuts are all healthy snacks.  HAPPY SNACKING!!
